Dr. Sameer M Dixit, Advisor at Microbe Notes

Dr. Sameer M Dixit is a scientist and public health leader with over 20 years of experience in public health research and basic/applied sciences. His expertise lies in the areas of infectious diseases, vaccines, and antimicrobial resistance, particularly in developing countries, and has held various positions in academia, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). He has extensive experience in research, policy development, and consultancy, and has actively participated in various forms of academic and programmatic research focused on public health issues.

Dr. Dixit holds a PhD and Master’s degrees in Biotechnology and Immunology from universities in Australia. He also has a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the United States. Throughout his career, Dr. Dixit has authored and co-authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals. He has also provided valuable advice to the Nepal government (MoHP and MoST, including PMO on multiple occasions) on public health concerns such as COVID-19 and antimicrobial resistance. His academic credentials include- Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Kathmandu University; Visiting Faculty, South Asian University (India: 2013, 14); Short Term Scholar, Luther College (USA: 2023).

Currently, Dr. Dixit serves as Founder Chairperson of Intrepid Nepal Pvt Ltd (a biotechnology-driven company), the Founder Director of Research at CMDN, and the Vice-Chairperson of the Nepal Public Health Foundation (NPHF: non-governmental public health policy think tank of Nepal).

Dr. Dixit’s dedication to public health is further evidenced by the numerous awards he has received, including the Australia Awards Fellowship 2023/2024, the ADVANCE Awards 2022 (Australian Government), the International Alumni of the Year Award 2017 (Western Sydney University) and the Alumni Award for Social Impact 2019 (University of Wollongong). These accolades recognize his significant contributions to public health research and service.

Dr. Dixit’s interests lie in the field of public health, specifically focusing on infectious diseases and vaccination in developing countries, particularly Nepal.

His work delves into several key areas (some of which involve microbiology and molecular diagnostics platforms):

  • Vaccine implementation, and policy planning: Dr. Dixit has co-authored and authored numerous publications exploring factors influencing successful vaccination programs, including the roles of community health workers and managing disruptions during pandemics.
  • Hepatitis: His research investigates the prevalence and transmission of Hepatitis B and C in the Indian subcontinent, specifically Nepal.
  • Antimicrobial resistance (AMR): Dr. Dixit has explored the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in Nepal and outside, and advocated for measures to mitigate AMR.
