Deepa Neupane

Deepa Neupane is a microbiologist with research interests in antimicrobial resistance, microbial ecology, and the molecular characterization of resistant pathogens. She did her Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from Tri-Chandra Multiple Campus, Tribhuvan University, where her undergraduate thesis investigated multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli in marketed raw meat from the Kathmandu Valley. Deepa has hands-on experience in both clinical and environmental microbiology. She currently works as an Intern Medical Microbiologist at Kathmandu Model Hospital, where she performs culture-based identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing and supports laboratory quality control and safety procedures. Previously, she worked at the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology’s Environment Laboratory, conducting microbiological, chemical, and physical analyses of water samples. Her work included isolating and characterizing ESBL- and carbapenemase-producing bacteria from river water and municipal wastewater treatment plants, with an emphasis on antimicrobial resistance genes. She has co-authored peer-reviewed publications in national and international journals and has presented her research at regional scientific symposia.
